Paddle or oar, known as a hoe in Polynesian, originating from the Marquesas Islands, specifically from the island of Ua Pou in the north of the archipelago.
Made of tou wood (walnut), it has a bird’s head at one end that emits sounds in the water to attract fish for better fishing.
It is signed by Pierre Kaiha, a renowned Marquesan artist and master sculptor.
