Created by a sculptor born and raised on the island of Maupiti, this piece embodies the strength and simplicity of Polynesian sculpture. The penu, traditionally used as a food pestle, is transformed here into a work of art with its clean lines and harmonious balance.

The base, broad and anchored, symbolizes stability and connection to the earth. The upper part, concave and delicately curved, evokes both welcome and transmission. The whole exudes an impression of contained power, where formal simplicity highlights the spiritual and cultural depth of the object.

Through his contemporary approach, this sculptor breathes new life into this ancestral tool, revealing its full aesthetic and symbolic dimension. The penu thus becomes a bridge between Polynesian heritage and modern creation, reminding us that art is a living memory.
