Giraffe tibia

This unique work, created by Heikua Marc Barsinas, a native of the Marquesas Islands, features a rather unexpected medium: a real giraffe tibia. Transformed by meticulous sculpting, the bone becomes a piece that bridges nature and Polynesian tradition.

The artist has created several tikis, emblematic figures of Marquesan culture, spiritual protectors and guardians. Each tiki, finely detailed, seems to emerge from the organic material, as if the bone already carried this ancestral memory within it.

Through this contrast between the animal and the sacred, Heikua Marc Barsinas offers a reflection on the power of symbolism, the continuity of cultures, and respect for living forms. The sculpture invites us to contemplate the link between the natural world and the spiritual world, sublimated by the hand of man.
